Has Canadian Prime Minister gone back on his word in regards to Marijuana Legalization?

Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

Today I decided to shed some light on a topic that seems to be boggling a lot of Canadians’ minds. Within the marijuana circles in Canada, a lot of folks are already nattering that Justin Trudeau lied to the folks when he said he would decriminalize marijuana upon getting to Ottawa.  I personally will never forget the Canadian Presidential Campaign in 2015 towards November, when presidential candidate Trudeau came out in the open and said he didn’t want marijuana to be an illegal substance any more. Will never forget the talks around town when this was promised to Canadians by Justin Trudeau. However 6 months into his term, doubts are now starting to circulate, that maybe, this chap was just saying shit to get elected.

Now, I’m smart enough to understand that it will take time to pass legislation that will enable folks to smoke pot without the fear of prosecution, but I can surely understand folk’s frustration .Before the election Prime Minster Trudeau was saying things like :

We’re going to get started on that right away,” Justin Trudeau 2015 before the election

Frustration is possibly scorching from the fact that the Liberal government of Canada doesn’t seem to be taking any measures towards the decriminalization or legalization of marijuana. Rather, some of the comments coming out of their mouths kinda makes it seem as if they are now starting to retreat from their promise. Recently Prime Minister Trudeau himself echoed that legalizing of pot could actually violate some global treaties that Canada is bound by. Wow folks, just WOW!  The treaties in questions are the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs of 1961, the Convention on Psychotropic Substances of 1971 and the United Nations Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances of 1988. Am sure he knew this when he was running for Prime Minister, but off cause he never said anything like that, he waited to be elected first then break the demoralizing news. Even more discouraging to the folks, is the fact that marijuana legalization doesn’t even seem to be on the table for the Liberal government.

Now, as an unprejudiced Marijuana Legalization supporter, this is my opinion on the whole issue. I don’t really think marijuana legalization will come within the first 2 years of Prime Minister Trudeau’s term, but rather I think it will happen before his run for the 2nd term in office. My guess is sometime around 2018 Marijuana could actually be decriminalized in all of Canada. Justin knew before he was elected that even with a majority government, this process was never going to be easy, but I truly believe he is determined to keep to his word and this will definitely happen in his first term. Will marijuana really be legalized in Canada? I don’t think so but I know for sure it will be decriminalized, meaning possession of small quantities will be legal and even growing a few plants. I think they will initially adopt the Colorado platform and then work from there. Lastly, let me also say to those hating on Trudeau, just remember its better him than Former Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Besides folks, there is other important things as well in life outside of pot, let’s give the Liberal Government time and if they fail to deliver-if it’s really that important to you, vote him out in the next election. I love marijuana myself folks, but my vote will never be influenced by a candidate’s stance on marijuana legalization. Canadian authorities already turn a blind eye on marijuana smokers and arrests are very very rare unlike our neighbors south of the border.

Till next time folks please keep the joints burning and the bongs loaded. Take care and please vast again tomorrow for out marijuana weekly roundup headlines. LEGALIZE MARIJUANA
